Special Projects

When my children were teenagers I wrote some short simplified versions of logical arguments addressing philosophical concepts of Truth, Relativism, Science, the existence of God, etc. The site is out of date now but the content still has some relevance. I have also had an interest in "patterns" and I quickly perceive these in the world around us. Whether it be in languages, mathematics, music, nature or the Bible - I am intrigued by the genius and design these patterns reveal. Though I have just started on this project, I have created a separate web page to share some insights on the patterns in nature and the Bible. Years ago I taught Estimating to a large number of contractors and construction workers. To illustrate the fundamental concepts and methods that could be used an all types of projects, I created an estimate on the most famous boat in history - Noah's Ark. What started out as a research and estimating effort, ended up revealing that Noah and his three sons needed 100 years to complete the task of building the vessel described in Genesis. Having heard preachers describe a much shorter time frame when they came to this Bible passage, I thought I had stumbled into a refutation of a key story in the Bible. Further study of my own allowed me to see that the text actually describes a 120 year time frame for the building of the Ark.

This turned out to be a happy coincidence that gives credence to the story of Noah's Ark in one of two ways. Either it is an actual historical event and therefore the writer was just being a good historian, or the writer fabricated the story but knew enough about building such a large vessel with only 4 men that he accounted for this with long life spans and other details in case someone like me checked on what was described. Click on the button below if you want to see the estimate and paper I wrote on this.
